Sophomore pacing colts received top billing on Friday, Oct. 11TH at Maywood Park as a field of seven state-bred three-year-olds battled in another $12,000 Betzotic Stake. After a thrilling stretch drive, the Nick Giberson trained Silver Devil emerged with a hard fought neck decision in 1:53.2 for driver Casey Leonard.

After getting away fifth as Crankin It Up (Kyle Wilfong) led the field through an opening quarter in 27.3 Leonard sent the striking grey gelding on his way while first over as the field headed for the half-mile mark.

With Crankin It Up continuing to show the way through middle splits of 57.1 & 1:25.1 Silver Devil began to inch alongside the pace setter as the field headed into the final turn.

After batting tooth and nail through the lane Silver Devil eventually overtook the leader then held off a furious rally up the inside from Fox Valley Norman (Mike Oosting) to notch his eighth win of the season. Fox Valley Norman settled for second while Crankin’ It Up held on for third.

With the win Silver Devil now boasts a record of 8-2-1 in 21 starts with earnings of $39,859 for owners Stephanie Winship, Carl Lacy, Amy Giberson and Monty Thompson.
