Horse of the Night

COTTONLAND GEM (13TH) : Speedy eight-year-old figures to be in control from the time the gate speeds away tonight. He wound up giving way late as the even money favorite in his last but he definitely deserves a chance to make amends. His conditioner is “batting” a mere .740 with just 7 starts but those numbers are awfully tough to ignore. If he gets loose on the lead he’s going to be awfully tough to catch.

Keep an Eye On These

TAMARAC SASSY (5TH) : Looking for a big wake-up effort from this mare as she drops in class tonight. She has struggled to get things going up to this point but she’s on her favorite surface and with the drop she’s hard to ignore here.
ALL FIRED UP & UNCLE SMOOTHIE ENTRY (10TH) : Two for the price of one here. The former showed great speed in his last at Balmoral and he could try to control things all the way here. The latter was a game wire to wire winner in his last here and he also figures to be forwardly placed throughout.
MJ’S LAST DANCE (12TH) : While the third time wasn’t the charm. She came up a neck short but she was flying late and showed me a lot in that start. With live cover to get her into position she may finally reward us tonight.

Backstretch Info

KANSAS WILDCAT (6TH) : Classy old-timer came up a step short in his 2014 debut here last week. That was a very solid try considering the 14-week layoff and who knows how much missed training time due to weather conditions while making his way back to the races. He’s very solid on this surface and this career winner of nearly $380,000 should be all set to score now that he’s got a tightener under his belt.

Press box picks will be posted at least 24 hours prior to race date.
